Did i say her acting was bad? I actually said the opposite, the people who understand the "oke" thing will know what i meant, and besides i said that was my own opinion abi, last time i checked everybody is entitled to theirs, as my sister above just reminded me.
I am not sure why you are upset. I was also stating my own opinion. Don't read my post with a dissenting voice, it was not written that way.

I was just pointing out that I like the movie, even though your points about the "okes" were lost on me, yet I still like the film. So there was some other appeal other than the "okes" thing. Although I am not disputing it since I have no idea about it.

And I was agreeing with you that Funke's acting made the movie and without her, it wouldn't have been worth watching.

Relax.. I wasn't assailing your opinion.

Of course she will get her target audience but not me. I saw just the first part & didn't bother seeing two. When human primarily sees of buying cars as the necessity when they get the mega cash why won't they make dull as they are ideas? She is from the ghetto and probably might have had things really rough why don't she think of impact to the lives of those around her first? She is clearly overdoing things and thats surely cause its low thinkers she associates and listen to other than getting a management.

Rubbish

Naija and mediocrity, it seem as if people use a different criteria when they critique YMG movies, this Jenifa movie is not all that now, make we talk true, they just blended 2 EMG movies Face of Africa and Rush hour and the only difference was the ara oke yoruba employed by Funke Akindele in the movie.

If this movie were to be an EMG movie, people would have pointed out all the technical and other flaws that the movie had, haba this movie is not soo great the way people are going about it na, i know she appealed to the southern Yorubas who tend to think that the ara okes are the bush meat yorubas, but haba now, the protrayal of the ara okes dress sense and make up sense bordering on stupidity is so not true.
Nike go try borrow the movie, you go see say na overhype dey worry our people jare and abeg the Yoruba warriors wey no like any critique of Yoruba movies na my own opinion be this oo, make anybody no bite me oo biko. Funke Akindele is a good actress though, i have been following her from her days on I need to know and i think she deserve to be one of the more popular EMG actresses because she has paid her dues, but i still have to call a spade a spade, Jenifa is not all that, it is just the same ole same ole we see in Nollywood.

From the highlighted part I can tell you that your opinion doesn't count. Yes! Why? Because you either watched the movie while you were sleeping or you didn't watch it at all. If you watched the movie you would know the Ara-okes were not portrayed as bush meat as you put it. It was just Jenifa who was portrayed as the bush girl -which perfectly makes sense unless you want to tell me nobody can dress like that. To test if you no dey yarn opaks I have some questions for you:

1. Where is Shakirat (sp) from?
2. Where is Becky from?

Nice try though. But we know better.

I take this as an insult to her audience, which I'm part of. So can you educate us on how your response is relevant to the sequel of this movie?

Ok, I understand the "oke" thingy and I think that's totally untrue cuz that premonition that people from wherever are the "bushest" yoruba people is some opinion that doesn't really hold water anymore. When I watched the movie, I thought "Ayetoro" was the one in Ogun State...I'm sure quite a few other people thought the same. On the other hand, any lady from any other part of Yoruba land could've dressed like that. They no plenti for Lagos?
Plus I have an Hausa friend who totally enjoyed the movie...with the help of gestures from the artistes and subtitles so it's not just a Yoruba hype love.
About it not making sense, its a comedy, meant to make people laugh, maybe educate some...may not have made sense but still achieved its purpose a gr8 deal.

Jenifa!

Ok o!... The only thing that made me laugh in that movie was the "Yea! - Aush!" The rest made no sense to me.

Now they are telling you that the girl that got HIV is trying to obtain America Visa without trashing the issue of the HIV, and y'all are clapping.
And tomorrow, some will say Nollywood had fallen bellow standard, why won't it, when our specialty is to praise half baked efforts.

Oh! Sorry, they say YMG is not part of Nollywood. So y'all can carry on!

For pete's sake no one is saying Jenifa is an oscar worthy film...it's a comedy and it achieved its purpose. A great number of people found the movie funny which was the point. It really doesn't have to make sense as far as I'm concerned. Osofia didn't make any sense either and it was a popular movie as well. People thought it was funny, although I never understood why.

You must personally dislike Ms. Akindele. There is something else in this statement than a simple review of the movie. What happened?

As naijafinest noted, it is just a comedy no different from the Osofia or some of the Aki & Paw films.

I totally agree! Again I am not Yoruba, nor do I speak the language and I liked the movie!

But seriously, for those of us that don't know what this "Okes" stuff is about, could someone explain?

<please stop doing that "8" to spell great" I beg. You are only saving 2 letters..>

okay make i explain the oke thingy. Yorubas have different accent, the LAgos type is kind of funky and a bit less conc, the oyo, osun, kwara type is more on the conc side, the Lagos type tend to sometimes laugh at the other type like they are bush, kind of like an Onitsha dialet and maybe Orlu Dialect and then the Orlu Person speaking his/ her own dialet in Onitsha and the Onitsha people looking like what the hell....
