Yul Bryner

OHHHHHHHHHHH Yeah girl, I had a crush on him forever after the 10 Commandment but I never saw him as Solomon in The Queen of Sheba. He was such a short man but with a very REGAL, big man presence. I 've never been a big fan of short men BUT there are some short men who can walk into a room and be six feet 4 simply because of their energy and confidence. Yul, Bob Marley...
Queen of Sheba -Yes he was featured with Gina Lolobringida (my mom's favorite actress see Mrs Campbell~ Buena Sera) (I prefer Sophia Loren however)

I agree Regal indeed ... he did tend to act roles that required that quality ... I am mostly drawn to his voice .... there is a masculinity that is unbeatable !!

In "The Ten commandments " ... I loved when he said .... "so let it be written so let it be done ... ' and he marched off while his robe swung to the side behind him ....that was hot !!!!!!

He was a short man but he had such a great stature /carriage that made him come across as big !!!

Its a shame no one ever thought to pair him with Elizabeth Taylor ...maybe they were of different generations Ill have to look that up !!

now i am confused
Abeg which one is Yul and which one is Linc in Sleek Ladies.
I thought it was that cutie Ini was dating initially and Rita wanted him to stop dating Ini, that handsome eloquent guy. Are you now saying that wasnt him.
As for newspaper vendor i have seen him in numerous movies since. I was hoping Linc was Ini's boyfriend smokin:

All this Linc, Yul, Poooo, Cooo, Shooo is confusing me,sweat:

That is Yul.

Linc is the newspaper vendor Ini hired to sleep with Rita, you remember the guy with the fake dollars.

Hope this helps.

Yep, that was his best line in the movie...loved it. And I am a big Sophia Loren fan as well and never did see the big deal about Lolobrigida who was mostly dripping sex and no skills. She aged very badly too. Sha, Yul and Elizabeth would have been contemporaries but who knows he might not have wanted to be caught up in her tempest as most of her other leading men. And he tended to act in classics while she did more contemporary things besides Julius Caesar, she didnt' do period pieces. I can't picture them together though.

oh really, i would have to watch again to see the resemblance. Linc does look like Pete Edochie, but the other fine one (i will call that one Emeka for now)sweat: i didnt pay attention to see if he resembles his father. So what are their igbo names cos i really dont care for this Yul, Pooo, cOO, Link, Kink etc.

I thought Pete Edochie was a true igbo man, i am surprise with these unusual names. Maybe they are russian names or something. They are cute but these names, me i dont know. I guess i have to get use to it:1087:sweat: - they are ok actors, i am liking them small small ( we shall see). I would watch them any day over that guy Benedict Johnson. If they'd use Yul in place of Benedicta in Blood for Tears (with Genny)

Yul brynner wikipedia

Oh by the way the movie was called Solomon and Sheba ... I was mistaken.
I did some research on him and Im surprised a lot of those movies where made in the 50's .....and yet they are still capitivating in this day and time.

Facts I discovered about Brynner -

Outstanding -(Brynner is one of only seven people who have won both a Tony Award and an Academy Award for the same role.)

- Towards the end of his life he contracted trichinosis and subsequently sued Trader Vic's restaurant in the Plaza Hotel in New York City for serving him undercooked pork, from which, allegedly, he caught the disease

No wonder his chest was solid in the movie
(The Ten Commandments opposite Charlton Heston and Anastasia opposite Ingrid Bergman. Brynner, only 5'10", was reportedly concerned about being overshadowed by Charlton Heston's physical presence in the film The Ten Commandments, and prepared with an intensive weight-lifting program.

Im gonna seek and order this book -(In addition to his work as a performer, Brynner was an active photographer, and wrote two books. His daughter Victoria put together a book of his photographs of family, friends, and fellow actors, as well as those he took while serving as a UN special consultant on refugees. The book is titled Yul Brynner: Photographer (ISBN 0-8109-3144-3). )

A guitarist too - (A student of music from childhood, Brynner was an accomplished guitarist and singer. In his early period in Europe he often played and sang gypsy songs in Parisian nightclubs with Aliosha Dimitrievitch. He sang some of those same songs in the film The Brothers Karamazov. In 1967, he and Dimitrievitch released a record album, The Gypsy and I: Yul Brynner Sings Gypsy Songs (Vanguard VSD 79265).)

I didnt know Siam is the same as Bangkok -interesting - now i know why I think of king and I when Im in a Thai restaurant same culture !!!(Brynner's role in The King and I is also referenced in the 1984 Murray Head song "One Night in Bangkok", [citation needed] in which the lyrics describe Bangkok as "the creme de la creme of the chess world in a show with everything but Yul Brynner". Bangkok is located in Thailand, which was formerly known as Siam

His bald head -He was known for his shaved head which he kept as a personal trademark since adopting it in his role in The King and I. Yul Brynner became synonymous with baldness during his lifetime.

Gotta look for that phoro (He began acting and modeling in his 20s, and early in his career he was photographed nude by George Platt Lynes.)

She sure did an outstanding job as Cleopatra ... her other roles never interested me either except the part she played as the shrew in Shakespeare's Taming of the shrew ....Im not sure if that was the actual name.

Maybe E Taylor could hav been cast as Nefertiti in The Ten commandments ... that would have been a solid cast of actors ...including Charleston Heston.

NAH, she would have overwhelmed the role and over shadowed the main stars and not intentionally but she is who she is and that isn't always appropriate for every role, you know? Did you see her in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof across from Paul Newman? BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBoy, you gotta see that and it will change your mind. And also check her out in Butterfield 8 - she won an Oscar.

rumor has it, "Cat on the Hot thing Roof" is being remade. I wonder who will star in that.
One of the best movies ever. sweat: BigPapa sweat: that pregnant inlaw was such a bi***
Jessica SImpson is remaking Private Benjamin.
Beyonce is remaking another movie likethat i forgot
I think they need to bring back all those old classics, I loved them
these movies of the 21st century are not as nice as the old old ones
(elizabeth taylor, woody allen, Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon, that british lady who acted the original "parents trap" (love her)etc ). The oldies were the best.
