French channel distributor Thema has announced the launch of an African Nollywood TV channel on its IPTV platform, with a line-up based on a selection of Nigerian movies, extracted from the catalogue of South African Multichoice’s channel Africa Magic.

Nollywood TV will be integrated to the Premium African Bouquet in France, before joining French-speaking African platforms by the end of this year. It first kicked off on the Free platform. Programming is based on the acquisition of 750 hours of original Nigerian movie productions, which will be dubbed in French but keep their English language original soundtrack.

With more than 2 000 films produced a year, Nollywood has helped Nigeria’s film industry to take the second place worldwide after Bollywood. In 2012, Nigeria should become the leading producer of TV movies, passing India.
