Gets interesting...

Pretoria, South Africa (CNN) -- It was the middle of the night, Oscar Pistorius says, and he thought an intruder was in the house. Not wearing his prosthetic legs, feeling vulnerable in the pitch dark and too scared to turn on the lights, the track star pulled his 9mm pistol from beneath his bed, moved toward the bathroom and fired into the door.

It was only after he called to girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp -- whom he thought had been in bed beside him after a quiet evening -- that he realized something horrible might have happened, he told Chief Magistrate Desmond Nair in a statement read by his lawyer during his bond hearing Tuesday. Prosecutors dispute the version of events that Pistorius detailed in his statement.

Just a sad story. I hope she did not suffer and I hope the truth comes out. My heart goes out to both families

Bizarre twist in Pistorius case - CNN.com

Pretoria, South Africa (CNN) -- The bail hearing for Oscar Pistorius wheeled toward the bizarre Thursday with the revelation that the lead investigator in the case against the famous Olympic sprinter is facing attempted murder charges.

Investigator Hilton Botha faces seven counts of attempted murder after South African prosecutors reinstated charges against him Wednesday in a 2011 incident in which he and other officers are accused of drunkenly chasing and firing on a minibus full of people, officials announced in court.

Prosecutors are trying to keep Pistorius jailed pending his trial on a charge of premeditated murder in the February 14 death of his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp. The hearing ended Thursday with no decision on bail and is scheduled to resume Friday.

bizarre indeed. Will this make it through trial? I bet you Lifetime TV is already putting a script together for a TV movie.

It makes you wonder though. I remember reading somewhere that Charlize Theron's mother had shot her father to death. They did say it was self defense. Crime in south africa is typically relegated to the slums and anything it produces and that these people of means just buy these guns to protect themselves. It seems that they do not wait for the people they are scared of to attack them. They just shoot each other up and get the charges dropped.

another turn

Judge Nair himself was in private mourning on Tuesday.
He confirmed that he is related to a woman suspected of killing her two children and committing suicide on the weekend.

The revelation was the latest twist in the saga of Pistorius and prominent figures linked to the case against the double-amputee athlete.

The bodies of a woman and her two sons were found Sunday evening at their Johannesburg home by her ex-husband, police Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said. Authorities suspect the woman administered a substance that killed her children, and took her own life by ingesting it as well.

"I can confirm the deceased is my first cousin," Nair told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.
