Got my copy today, watched it asap. a classic and beautiful masterpiece. you don't often see this kind of movies except from french african directors.

My favorite line from the film was Jimah's Last night is not this morning! that was just classic and very symbolic of what men do.

loved the cinematography. the cold colors helped to create a very unfriendly and almost antiseptic feel that makes you uncomfortable through the film. and that rape scene oh my.

I love Leila Djansi"s symbolism. every scene foreshadowed an element of the characters lifes and my favorite scene was when Pabi had to choose between her job and her marriage. no dialogue, just her looking at her uniform and looking at her sleeping husband. breathtaking.

i'm inclined to say I wanted some more light moments. it was dark from A-Z. some laughter or comedy would have been nice to ease the tension. but it is what it is. reminded me so much of requiem for a dream.

A mature, inspiring, dialogue initiating piece. 20 thumbs up miss Leila!! you are a story teller!!

    9.5/10

Wow, 9.5? It must be really good. Very few movies ever manage to get an 8 in my books. 9.5 is reserved for the 'Inception' and 'LOTR:RotK' calibre movies of this world. I will watch this just to see what you're talking about.

The movie had a serious theme. It was gloomy in that sense. And that is why I am yet to write a review. It wore me out a bit. I don't quite know what to make or say of it. I tried to separate all the drama that has gone on with Djansi from my honest feelings about the film. I tried not to let the hype get in the way of my expectations. And you know what? It somehow did. I want to watch a film not knowing what to expect, not having any personal disaffection for the creators of the film; real or imagined.I dont need to be, what should I say when seeing a film...discomfitted at the mention of the creators' names, or be reminded subconsciously that I am watching a movie made by them. I cant honestly say I watched for the enjoyment like I do every other movie. It was good. Well written. Well directed. There were some funny lines too. Strong performances, though I was not too enthused by Ama K Abebrese, the lead. Her scenes with Yemi Blaq spiced things up a bit. Otherwise, she is a bit of a bore. Sorry.

Now the whole theme of "enough is enough" to me seems turgid considering the damage the accident caused the lead. I mean when he was unveiled, I was horrified. Anybody in his situation would have reacted in the same fashion. Considering they had been married only 2 weeks. Come on. He was going through the five or so stages of grief in my opinion. Not to excuse his actions, he was not being physical on a whim. The man WAS deformed. And who can blame him? The make-up artist did her job a little too well. Had he been less scarred, I would have said 'enough is enough' would have been an appropriate theme. When you live in close quarters with a culprit, violence & bitterness becomes almost inevitable. You see the root of your problem everyday.

What else can I say about it? The film lived up to the hype production-wise. Storywise, not so sure. It is sad that a woman who is well versed in what she does lets her attitude get in the way of people's feeling for her work. It should not be so. Ya'll should watch and let us know what you think.

Thanks Brooms, for pointing out what's standing in Leila's way from reaching the very top of her game. She's very talented, no doubt, but she needs to respect the right people in the business so her talent can bloom, even more. She's so good that even I, wants to be a fan. But not until she go back and correct one big mistake she has made in the past.

We are all rooting for you, Leila. Its time to let bygones be bygone. Good luck.

Brooms, her attitude gets in the way of her work? I'm not sure I get you. Those that have met her testify to her sweet nature. So how does her attitude get in the way of her work? Say that you don't like her based on what the media has created of her,by which mean you don't have a mind of your own put the cart ahead of the horse. and don't judge her. I'm sick of the way this girl gets judged by people who don't have a clue!

@bolded Do you know Ms. Djansi, and have you worked with her???...I'm asking, so that I know from which context this statement is coming from...If you have a back story on this, please spill the tea.

If she's not arrogant as some has suggested, why don't she just pick up the phone and apologize to the person she offended. I just don't understand the big deal. Maybe those people were right, maybe she is arrogant. If not, she should proof them all wrong by apologizing and lets all move on with our lives. Personally, I so f'king tired of waiting.

Dsam, what you fail to realize is that Laila does not need Gene.....if anything, Gene is the one who needs Laila...those days when gene was the one and only are gone as there are so many other actresses to choose from. So go figure!

The above is the classic definition of arrogance. I desperately hope Leila is not as arrogant as you just described above. Young (female) Africans need good role models, not arrogant people. It doesn't really matter who needs or doesn't need who. What really matter is for Leila to proof to the world that she's not as arrogant as some people perceived her.

Why should she prove anything to anyone ? And did I see you write some rubbish up there that she should apologize to who again? Dsam, be serious for once. You of all people is speaking of arrogance???? How did you connect what I said to Leila being arrogant? FYI, what I said up there are my own observations and I stand by what i said! There are so many good actresses out there and Gene is no longer the one and only like she use to be. Sadly, it is a fact and there is nothing you or anyone can do about it....too many fishes out there in the sea...
