A 4K res camera, under 10G's, shoots RAW and ridiculous framerates for the price -

10x 1080p slo-mo... so we're talking 240fps, 480fps at a lower res and... you dey hear this one??? AND an UPGRADE PATH TO 4K ACQUISITION/DELIVERY!! Boo-Yaaaaaaah!!

And they have immediatley become that in the sub $10,000 range. Infact they even (kind of) hold it in the F65 $50-$70,000) range.

The camera is a true high end camera for top end Nollywood productions for sure. An answer to the Canon's camera you posted a few weeks ago, and cheaper too.

True! Steve Jobs said "If you don't canibalise your own products, someone else will"... or something like that. Let Canon keep on being the losers and playing it safe with over-priced stuff. Oh well, NAB 2012 starts in about 11 days... let's see the price point of the Canon 4K HDSLR.

Really cool shots in this video showing off the in-cam slo-mo capability! Also, I'm not too sure, but it seems compared with the FS100, the colour reproduction has improved.

Sony Professional: Introducing the Sony NEX-FS700

EDIT: I also found an in-camera 480fps video. It looks very good despite the camera blowing up the original 1920x432 footage.

FS700 480fps Test
Cool...Okay just dropped my first dime in the piggy bank...hopefully I get to $10Gs before 5K comes out...

Lol... good idea but you're a wee bit late... 5K acquisition has been out for a while (Red Epic) ... as well as 8K sensors downsampling to 'true' 4K (Sony F65)... I'd still love to have the FS700.

Been looking into buying another camera....nothing as expensive as that FS700, my funds no reach that level....I had my mind set on the Sony Nex VG20 until I came across the Panasonic GH2...I've been looking at the reviews and I'm impressed. I know this camera has been out for a while...but I'm slow with keeping up with technology. VB I need your expertise on this one...

Here's a short film I found on youtube made with this camera

Kala, how you doing? It's a tough one... I would say wait a couple of weeks so we can start figuring out what's happened at NAB 2012.

The GH2 is an 'amazing' camera - but only with the HACK. It is very old (3yrs or so) and there should be a GH3 soon/ish. The big issue with the GH2 is the x2 crop so it's hard getting a wide-angle for it... without having stand 50m back from the subject ;-)
Having said that - one thing about cameras is - If you 'need' it NOW, buy what you can afford NOW and use it NOW.

I know Andrew Reid has posted a lot of tests and articles about the GH2; I admit I don't follow GH2 news as much as I should as I don't own one nor want to get one 'anymore'.
His blog can be found here - EOSHD.com

When I wanted a 2nd cam it was between the Panny GH2 & the Canon 60D... I went for the 60D since I'm already invested in Canon stuff. Do I think the GH2 is better? Yes... but again, only with the Hack.
Double & Triple check that the current GH2 can still be hacked as I remember at some point, a year or 2 ago, Panasonic were pissed off with the hackers and started creating a GH2 batch that 'couldn't' be hacked! I never followed up on the news/dev but it is possible the hackers found a work-around.

I would still say don't go for a GH2... just wait a bit.

Thanks bro...I would like to wait but the site I was about to order from has a sale that expires on the 14th...which I believe is the first day of NAB. And another thing...I read somewhere that Final cut can't capture GH2 files directly..that the files have to be converted....anyway I have till the fourteenth to decide if I'm going with it or not...

Ah ok... that's a dilema. I doubt FCP takes in the .mts 'AVCHD' files using 'Import from Camera'. Off-load the files and transcode to ProRes using MPEG Streamclip... it's free for both Mac & PC. I use it for almost everything.

Do you ever 'import' directly from the SD card?? And what version FCP do you use? I think FCP'X' has GH2 support but don't use version 'X'... yet.

Sorry can't be of much help. I've shot with the GH2 but never had to edit the data or ever taken home any of its files so I don't really know. But I know you definitely can convert them to less-lossy ProRes.

I use FCPX....I've imported a few times from SD cards, stuff I shot on my "entry level" Nikon 3100...don't get me started on that camera, I bought it last year because I wanted to try my hands on some DSLR video...but the video quality is shit..scuse my french. That rolling shutter is my biggest gripe with DSLRs, Moire..I don't mind that much...
Nevertheless, I just bit the bullet and ordered the GH2....I was impressed by the testimonials and clips(shorts & music videos) on YouTube. The camera itself is quite cheap..where they get you is with the cost of Lumix glass, some of them cost more than the camera...

Ouch! You went Nikon... the bad thing about them is they have so dragged their feet when it comes to DSLR Video. Only the very latest camera has anything 'possibly worthwhile' and it's 3G's!
All DSLRs suffer from pretty bad rolling shutter; you just have to plan the shots a bit better and 'Handle-With-Care'... yeah it is a pain in the ass. You'll need a rig for your DSLR to help too.
You can ignore Lumix glass... get an adaptor and use practically any other cheap glass. My gripe with the GH2 is the 2x crop factor. A wide 24mm lens becomes almost a 50mm, a 50mm becomes a 100mm lens and so on; so the problem is 'What is a wide angle lens on that camera?'... I think they have a 14mm-to something mm Lumix lens?? But it's not 'fast' glass. The big advantage of the GH2 is the Hack... it turns it into an awesome camera.

My 60D with Hack has become my 'A' cam and the bigger badder 7D (that still can't be hacked) is relegated to 'B' cam duties. If I didn't shoot stills on the side for work I would have sold the 7D ages ago and picked up another 60D and new glass.

How are you finding FCPX? I still don't want to switch to it yet... maybe I will a year or so down the line.

I'm still kicking myself for getting that Nikon D3100, I recently discovered that my Nikon D40(1st gen dslr) takes better low light pictures.

The kit lens on the GH2 I ordered is a 14-42mm, I saw some clips of shot with the lens..and it didn't wow me. I also ordered a 14mm pancake lens, which I think I'll be using more of till I can afford a 20mm and a fish eye for music videos.

Up until recently I've been enjoying using FCPX but recently the X has been freezing up on me...maybe it's because I have a few unfinished projects running at the same time...
