A WEEKLY television game show entitled Temptation Nigeria made its debut on M-NET (channel 3) last Monday. The show would be featuring participants from across Nigeria whose knowledge of their country is the major strength for participation.

Hosted jointly by IK Osakioduwa, the quiz master, and Kemi Adetiba, the prize negotiator, the show which runs weekly leaves contestants to aspire to win, knowing that there are a variety of prizes at stake. The grand prize is $100 000 (USD).

Main aim of the show is to get contestants to answer as many general knowledge questions as quickly as possible. Every right answer wins a point for the contestant while every wrong deducts a point for the participant.

The more points a contestant has the better chances for him or her to swap the points for prizes. But the contestant, if he decides to keep the points, stands the chance to win bigger prizes and move into the next round.

The prizes on offer range from designer luggage and expensive diamond jewellery to laptop computers and home equipment. There is also a KIA 4x4 SUVs on offer and a dream holiday at the luxurious Sun City Casino and Resort, South Africa.

Each episode sees three contestants taking to the Temptation Nigeria floor, with the winner of each episode returning to take on new competitors in the next episode.

Among the contestants taking to the show were business executives, students, bankers, marketing and salespeople, lawyers, IT professionals, engineers as well as a doctor, a professional singer, an economist and a geologist.

"Make no mistake though...Temptation Nigeria is not just about answering questions quickly and correctly, there are also all kinds of innovative devices to keep contestants in with a chance," said Segun Fayose of MultiChoice Nigeria.

In a speech at the launch of the programme last Saturday in Lagos, General Manager, Multichoice Nigeria, Mr. Collins Khumalo said the show was a demonstration of "a sense of optimism," and pride "that a channel like M-Net is creating great local content" for their Nigerian audience.

According to him "the fact that M-Net has identified the need to provide innovative Nigeria production is commendable. The fact that they do so, on a continuous and consistent basis is remarkable. Their investments in creating these productions and initiatives, both in terms of people and money, cannot be underestimated and its inherent value cannot be ignored."

Khumalo informed that in addition, MultiChoice Nigeria has constantly motivated channel providers to create Nigerian programmes given the body's recognition that this approach would yield positive result.

"With the abundance of local television talent, there is no end to the stories that can be told and the imaginations that can be awakened through partnership between M-Net and local production teams. We urge M-Net to continue these partnerships that are mutually beneficial, and which result in the overall development of the local television industry.

"Further, I would like to take this opportunity to commend M-Net for heeding our advice and respecting the traditions and cultures of Nigeria in their productions.

"They have acted responsibly in recognising what attracts audiences but does not offend them; what invites commentary without being needlessly provocative," Khumalo said.

The newly appointed CEO of M-Net, Mr. Joseph Hundah, described the launch as an exiting day.

He disclosed the cause of his excitement this way: "In the past few months I have travelled to Nigeria many times. Each time I have found the country to be one where creativity, talent and enthusiasm find a comfortable home.

"I find it particularly fun to be launching this show in this city (Lagos), because they match each other so well. From the great vibe, to great success, both the city and the series (Temptation Nigeria) have similarities.

"They share one special trait as well. It is one that I would like to believe also lies at the heart of M-Net - a belief that having guts and vision yields powerful results.

This has been the core believe of M-Net and a driving force behind its production, to take bold action. To create TV that entertains, captivates and evokes emotion," Mr Hundah said.

The company's head observed that with Temptation Nigeria, his organisation was making a commitment to Nigeria by providing top quality local content. He recounted such shows as Survivor Africa, Studio 53 and Face of Africa which all involved Nigerian participants, adding that

"earlier this year, Big Brother Nigeria (BBN) marked a new level of M-Net production in Nigeria." According to him, M-Net intends to expand on the BBN.

"From the talent of presenters, IK and Kemi, to the super-smart contestants and prizes valued at over $200,000 (USD), it is my belief that Temptation Nigeria will provide true Nigerian TV magic!"

Broadcast of the game show began on Monday November 6, and runs through 26 episodes. Hundah descrbed it as "a show fuelled by glamour, opportunity and wide ranging rewards."

His words: "Collaboration and partnership are key to M-Net's past, current and future productions. We recognise this fact and intend to continue to fostering good, synergistic working relationships in Nigeria."

You're right she's in the top 2 at the moment, one hot dude paul beat her last week, and also won yesterday, so he's on top of the table, but I expect vicky to be in the last round
