Baba Suwe resulted from Babs Omidina's role as "Baba Suwe" in the TV series of yore on NTA Channel 7, Lagos. The name stuck since then. "Suwe" herself is Baba Suwe's first wife in real life (before he married Omoladun as second). However, "Suwe" does not seem to act anymore.

Where did the "ashewo" bit come from?
that actually came from a movie she did a long time ago when she went to mecca and was prostituting. the title of the film is called ashewo to re mecca. That's why they call her that name. the film was a major break for her

She is also called Toyin Afolayan. She also got the name from a movie where she went about dating men & sitting on their wealth I guess. That's a name from many years back.

Oga Bello (Adebayo Salami): his cast name in the comedy serial called "Awada Kerikeri". The play was aired on major TV stations in the late 70s, early 80s. Used to love it back then.

Aji'rebi (Kayode Olasheinde) - got this from his cast name in a flick he did years back; he actually got his break from the play.

Moladun (Monsurat Omidina) - got hers from a sympathy-evoking character she played (named Moladun) in the very interesting and emotional play serial titled "Okanlawon" on NTA Ibadan in the 80s/early 90s.

Iya Awero ( Lanre Hassan) - her cast name in the comedy serial called "Awada Kerikeri". The play was aired on major TV stations in the late 70s, early 80s. She co-starred with Oga Bello, Beliiti (Felix), Ikeregbe, Sabitiyu (died almost twenty years ago) and others.

Pa Kasumu (Kayode Odumosu) - cast name in the flick "Aye Le". He is usually the cantankerous, 'heavy-oyinbo speaking' man.

Elesho (Adewale Elesho) - Cat name made popular in a movie he did in the past (can't remember now). The name has stuck to him since then; though it is his surname.

Oh my goodness! I remember Mama mi l'eko......Who knows if they have the series on DVCD? I didn't even know that Idowu Phillips was mama mi l'eko!
have you noticed that Toyin Ashewo almost 90% of the time plays an ashewo, loose woman? I guess to keep the name?
