African pay-TV platform Zuku will carry African Movie Channel following the demise of its previous Nollywood films provider HiTV.

Nigeria-based HiTV, which aired Nollywood films on the Zuku platform through its HiNolly channel, closed in November amid a mounting debt crisis.

Its channels Hi Sports, Hi Nolly and Hi Nolly Yoruba ceased to operate leaving Zuku, which provides pay-TV channels to audiences in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, with a gap in its line up.

Now Zuku has agreed to carry the African Movie Channel (AMC) from this month to provide Nollywood and other African films to the East African audience.

AMC launched as a linear channel in May last year having launched as an on-demand service in 2006.

Hannelie Bekker, MD of Wananchi Programming, which owns and operates Zuku, said: “The unfortunate demise of HiNolly created a gap in our line-up that consumers were quick to respond to.

“AMC has proven its ability to aggregate the best movies, and perform very efficient quality assurance and rights management.”
