Adobe ditches boxed software

Software giant Adobe has ditched the boxed software business.

The company, which makes costly imaging and design programs aimed at pros, including Photoshop, Premiere and InDesign, said Monday that all new versions of its programs would be available via subscription only.

Wow, looks like CS6 is the last version of Premiere I will be using. I'm not using this stupid cloud thing if I have to be paying them indefinitely. The updates are not impactful enough to be worth it.

I think it's a pretty stupid move, what is it with companies and their bullying tactics? Imagine 'renting' the software for 10 years @ $50 a month then you decide to stop 'renting'... that's $6K out of pocket... and worse still you don't even have access to your OWN (build) files as they need to be opened with the same software you are no longer renting. Yeah right Adobe, well done... I bet you've just lost thousands if not tens of thousands of users.
Same here, staying with CS6 and that's that.

I still dey rock my CS4...haven't found a need to upgrade yet.....

It was okay when it was optional. I guess I'll have to stick with CS5 for the next couple of years and then (if necessary) jump to CS6 and use it for maybe another 4-5 yrs. I am pretty sure in the next 6 yrs, I'll be able to train my mind to adapt to Premiere, After effects and Photoshop alternatives...then it will be goodbye to Adobe.

If you ask me AVID is the place to be. They have both Windows and Mac versions. Currently looking at getting the Avid Symphony version.
