I am leading this campaign, my name is Dapo Adeniyi managing director of back page productions and executive producer of the Ake film project.

This is a honour project, for our beloved Professor Soyinka, our country Nigeria and our movie industry as a whole.

Ake is a book Soyinka wrote about his childhood in Abeokuta during world war II. It concludes with an eye witness account of Egba women’s riot led b y Mrs. Funmilayo Ransome Kuti ( mother of late musician Fela) and his own mother.

The riot led to the deposition of the Egba monarch, the abolition of poll tax on Nigerian women as well as the institution of the universal adult suffrage (law allowing all women to vote), laws still in force today.

The 1930s and 1940s are to be recreated in the movie which is why it is so expensive, the most ambitious film project ever contemplated in Nigeria so far.

It will travel around the world, and project Nigeria’s image. To be released in June 2014. In time for the celebration of Soyinka’s 80th birthday and that of the Nigerian Amalgamation.

The film is going into production from June 2013.

Dapo has been working on this project for almost 2 decades, if not longer. It is a real labor of love. Good luck buddy.
